Can we have the same Spirit in us that is in Christ?

Writer's picture: William MillerWilliam Miller

Imagine if you had the Spirit of Jesus in you, what would that be like? Would you be excited or worried? Would you believe you were filled with power or hopeless? Would you stand taller or think you are not worthy? Galatians 4:6 says just that; “Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts…”. Romans 8:9 tells us if we belong to God the Spirit of God dwells in us. Also, 2 Corinthians 1:22 tells us He put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit as a guarantee. If you have accepted Jesus as Savior, then praise God, you have the same Spirit of Jesus in you. Jesus said in John 7:38; “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

All too often we forget what is inside of us as believers. God promised to never leave us or forsake us, and He cannot, for two reasons; God is not a man that He can lie, and He has put His Spirit in us. Why would God do that for us? Out of love? – yes! Out of knowing what He has called us to do as believers? – yes! Out of knowing that the battle is in the Spirit and apart from Him we can do nothing? – yes! 2 Peter 1:4 tells us; “He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature…”. You have already been given everything necessary for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). You have His living word to break down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). He has given us the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). “He even gave us a spirit of power, love and sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). These are just a few of the 100’s of verses that describe every good thing already in us in Christ Jesus.

As we grow in understanding of our new creation that is Holy Spirit filled, we become more confident to deal with situations from the one who comes to steal, kill, and destroy, because we know Christ came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. He did not leave us hopeless! As we seek Jesus first and the understanding of His love for us we begin to realize we are not helpless but can team with the Holy Spirit power within us, to speak to storms in the name of Jesus. “Life and death are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat of its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). You are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10). The Holy Spirit is excited to work with you. He wants you to hear Him so He can do His job as your guide and counselor, but He will not force you because you have a free will choice. He is calling you into the miraculous with the same Spirit of Jesus, to do what Jesus did and even greater things. What if we got up every morning knowing what is in us and said, “Good morning Holy Spirit, what do we get to do today?” Then look forward to the journey!

I pray this for you: “May the God of peace fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may overflow with hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13)
